THURSTON RUNS A GOOD RACE.

There was some cheap talk framed about the
betting on yesterday’s fourth Ideal Park race —
the event of the day— in which Thurston, Pinkey
Potter, Judge Denny and May Galop met.
Thurston was at 3 to 1, Complaint was made
to Col. Clark on account of the unnatural price.
He talked to owner Rogers and substituted
Caywood for Ham, with Mr. Rogers’ consent.
Both owner and boy had bet on Freeland’s,
brother. The chmge was not unhealthy. Thurs-
ton’s price fell from 3 to 2 to 1. Caywood rode him
excellently. Judge Denny, the good thing, was a
dismal last.

The Pinkerton stable turned a neat trick with
their colt Fair Faith. He was in the second
race with a cheap lot, yet on his recent races he
did not seem to have a possible chance. His
owner and some wise ones knew something,
however, and bet heavily on the hor e. The
colt was off none too well and never was a con-
tender until the stretch was reached, when
he galloped oyer his field as though they were
tied and won in real race-horse fashion by four
lengths.

The other winners. Squan. Blaiserock and
Millie M, won with lots to spare.

William Oliver, the owner of Squan. was not
present to see his youngster win. He, by mis-
take, got aboard a Milwaukee limited train and
landed in the Wisconsin town instead of at the
track. When the train passed the park he
sought to give Roller instructions how to run
the colt from the back platform of the last
coach. They m issed.
